3 HECOstix drills to improve your cricket catching skills

3 HECOstix drills to improve your cricket catching skills

The standards of fielding in cricket are reaching new levels all of the time with some amazingly athletic catches taken on a regular basis and it certainly can be where big games are won and lost...

Catches WIN Matches

Seeing the ball clearly and focusing on the ball in the catching zone are key components to a successful catch but often players will guess where the ball will end up or start to think about what they will do next with the ball hence losing focus. HECOstix forces you to watch your subject much more closely ... in these 3 drills, the Cricket Kid attempts to catch the colour stix called by his dad.

  • High Catches - Throw the HECOstix up high then call the colour. For added difficulty you can also dictate the hand used too. ie- Right Hand Blue or Left Hand Red so adding extra information processing.

  • Turn and Catch - a progression on high catch but now your reaction time is cut right down. The feeder calls turn - then the catches reacts... the later the call, the harder the catch.

  • Running Catches - this one replicates running forward to take a catch but with the HECOstix being spun, its really tricky to master! Some amazing catches from the Cricket Kid on show here!!

These drills were lots of fun and really challenging - the key to any practice. HECOstix is available in the UK exclusively from Lightning Sports (shop the range)
